Important information and FAQs

  • Am I eligible to buy an international SIM from you?

You must be a UK resident to buy one of our international SIMs. Sorry, if you are resident in Guernsey, Jersey or the Isle of Man, you’re not eligible. You must also have a UK debit or credit card with a UK registered address – we’ll send your SIM to this address.

  • Do you charge VAT?

Yes, we charge 20% on all product and services where VAT is applicable in accordance with UK law.

  • What is the contract length?

The minimum contract length is 12 months. If you end your contract before 12 months, you'll be charged an early termination fee.

  • What are my out-of-bundle charges if I use up my allowance?

If you use voice, SMS or data after you’ve used up your bundle, we’ll charge you extra.

You’ll also be charged extra if you call non-geographic numbers and premium-rate numbers, or use your phone outside the included countries. See our out-of-bundle rates.

  • How does billing work?

When you buy, we’ll take a one-month advance payment; however, your contract only starts once your international SIM has been activated. We’ll invoice you on, or about, the 5th day of each month and take payment from your stored debit or credit card ten days later.

You’ll see your standard monthly charge, including any add-ons, on your monthly bill. If you incur any out-of-bundle charges, they’ll be billed on your next month’s invoice. If the payment fails, we’ll email you and try again. We reserve the right to suspend your service if we don’t receive payment.

  • How can I activate my SIM?

    1. Activate it

Log in to your account and follow the easy instructions at truphone.com/getstarted

    2. Insert it

Snap out the SIM that fits your phone, pop it in and turn on your phone

    3. Love it

Enjoy using your phone abroad just as you would at home

  • How does spend management work?

We’ve capped your out-of-bundle charges to £50 excluding VAT per month. We’ll text you to let you know when you reach this limit. We reserve the right to modify this credit limit at any time.

  • How does the EU data cap work?

EU law says networks must cap the amount of data you use when roaming at €50 (roughly £40) excluding VAT each month to stop you running up huge bills when you’re abroad.

If you hit this cap, you won’t be able to use your phone’s internet. To opt out, please contact us before you travel.

Please note that we exclude the following countries from the EU data cap:

    • Germany
    • Poland
    • UK
    • Spain
    • The Netherlands
    • Australia
    • USA
    • Hong Kong

This is because these countries are included in the Truphone Zone, which is like using your phone at home.
