FAQ

Mobile operators across the globe are in the process of shutting down their 3G networks so that they can focus on and increase capacity on next generation technologies such as 4G and 5G. Truphone’s partner in Germany, Vodafone, is also shutting down their 3G network.

VoLTE is the new standard for phone calls, which brings great benefits such as: HD voice quality and a faster call set up amongst other benefits. All Truphone customers using an iPhone in Germany already have VoLTE automatically installed, thanks to our close global collaboration with Apple. Truphone users, that use Android devices, will need the right settings on their device to enable high quality calls on VoLTE (4G), WiFi and for seamless data access on various android models available in the market.

How to download the app?
The app is available on Google play store. Search for ‘Truphone for Business’ and download the app directly to your phone.

What are the requirements to have the app
The app can run on any Android device that has an Android OS version 7 and above and has data access.

How to set up the app - permissions
Once the app has been downloaded, you will be asked for a few permissions. Here is list of permissions that you would be requested and why we ask for it.
1. Allow Truphone for Business to make and manage phone calls – This permission is requested to access the sim card and let you make calls via your phone’s native dialer instead of using the dialer in the app
2. Allow Truphone for Business to access your phone call logs -This permission is requested to create incoming and outgoing call entries to your phone logs.
3. Allow Truphone for Business to record audio – This permission is requested so that you can make calls using the app. Truphone does not record your calls using this app. This is a standard Android terminology when access to microphone is requested.
4. Stop optimizing battery usage – The app in the current version has to run in the background so that we can intercept incoming calls and route it in the best possible manner. We are working on this so in the future versions you may not be required to grant this permission.
5. Set Truphone for Business as your default call redirection app – This is required so that we can redirect all your calls on the best possible technology.
We need you grant all the permissions requested so that the app can work as intended. Once you have accepted all the permissions, the app is set up and you can make calls as normal and the app will take care of the rest.

How to use the app
The app has been designed such that as a user you have very minimal or no changes at all to how you use your phone for making and receiving calls. So with that principle, once the app has been installed, you would not have to use the app at all. You will be able to use the phone normally – you could make phone calls from your normal dialer and incoming calls will also be presented for you to accept or decline as normal. But having said that you would find some changes to the interface which we have tried to capture here.
1. A phone icon appearing on the notification bar – As mentioned before the app, in the current version, has to run in the background so we can intercept calls. This icon indicates that the app is running in the background.
2. The interface that you get to see is while the call is ongoing will be slightly different to what you would experience with your phone model’s interface. This does not reduce any functionality.

How do I know if the app is working?
When you drag down the notification bar, you’d be able to see “Truphone Business is enabled”.

Are there any limitations with the app?
There are a few limitations with the app that we are actively working on;
1. CLI (showing your mobile number to persons you are calling) restriction: If you choose to restrict your CLI by changing the settings on phone, the app ignores the setting and your mobile number will be revealed.
2. Ring tone when making calls: When you dial certain countries, you will not hear a ring tone when the other person’s phone is ringing. Please note that this is only when you call certain countries and does not affect call quality in any way.
3. Dual SIM card: The app ignores the preference you have set on which number to use for outbound calls and will always use your Truphone number that is linked with the app. You can prevent this by going to Settings ->Dialer call integration and choose “Always ask”. With this setting, you’ll be asked whether to use Truphone Business for making the call every time you make a call. This does not affect your incoming calls.
4. Bluetooth connectivity: Due to restrictions on Android, you will not be able to accept/ decline incoming calls or hang up an ongoing call using your Bluetooth controls. But you will still be able to communicate using speakers/ headphones connected using Bluetooth.
