Main Purpose of the Role

Truphone's Wholesale function is a fundamental enabler for the entire Truphone business and this is a critical and high profile role at the heart of Wholesale's activities. The Wholesale function is responsible for the establishment and management of relationships with global mobile (and fixed) operators who provide Truphone with connectivity into our global core network. The Head of Wholesale Business Management will be responsible for:

  • Handle and investigate billing issues raised under the incident
  • Wholesale P&L management, assuring budget delivery and identifying opportunities for improvement and competitive advantage
  • Performance tracking and the driving of corrective actions across Wholesale and the wider business;
  • The identification of commercial negotiation targets via analytics / data interpretation and business requirements gathering, validation and prioritisation;
  • Wholesale reporting and governance, both internal and in respect of Supplier relationships;
  • Interconnect and interworking agreements oversight and revenue generation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Construction and management of the Wholesale budget, working collaboratively with Finance and Wholesale colleagues and other key stakeholders across the Truphone business;
  • Ensuring that the Wholesale function achieves its budgeted numbers via the identification and prioritisation of airtime, interconnect and interworking negotiation targets following:
  • Detailed analysis of customer traffic patterns and the associated costs, identifying variances against budget and driving corrective actions across the organisation;
  • Capture, validation and prioritisation of new requirements from key stakeholders, e.g. Product Development, Strategic Partnerships, Executive team driven initiatives;
  • Active management of known constraints and risks;
  • Reporting and Governance across the whole scope of Wholesale activity;
  • Commercial and applicable regulatory database management
  • Supplier management governance
  • The tracking of Wholesale's Change Programme progress versus plan across the virtual team, driving corrective actions where necessary;
  • Ensure that the business effectively manages Wholesale related contractual and regulatory constraints, issues and risks.
  • Maintain the database of Wholesale related contractual and regulatory obligations;
  • Contribute to key business forums and support ad hoc queries to ensure that contractual and regulatory obligations are clearly understood and respected;
  • Initiate lobbying activity where appropriate;
  • Provide business leadership to projects to implement and track the invoicing of terminating and voice revenues on an ongoing basis.
  • Take responsibility to ensure that Truphone optimises the opportunities afforded by GSMA membership.
  • The Head of Wholesale Business Management will have 2 direct reports: The Wholesale Business Administrator and the Interconnect and Interworking Business Manager

Skills and Experience Required

  • Resilient, highly commercial, capable of thriving in a super fast paced environment
  • Strong ability to lead, coach and motivate and support a cross-functional and cross-matrix team;
  • Strong analytical capabilities;
  • Good understanding of budget management and finance principles
  • Ability to think strategically and translate strategic thinking into solid deliverables and plans
  • Supplier management / outsourcing experience and skills
  • Excellent communicator; highly organised; forthright; driven; energetic; robust; able to work independently without supervision.
  • Ability to challenge constructively at all levels
  • Ability to process large volumes of data, distil the salient points and communicate in a simple, yet compelling way.
