Buying your Truphone Local Anywhere SIM
How long does delivery take?
Truphone Local Anywhere is the new global mobile service designed to keep you local wherever you are. We
give local rates for calls, texts and data in any 'Truphone country' - plus local numbers so contacts in those
countries can call you on a number local to them- all on the same SIM.
We will be introducing a range of postage options shortly so that you can receive your SIM sooner if you wish.
Do you have a solution for businesses too?
Yes - you can find out all about our corporate solution here.
Why have you changed the packs to one pack? I liked the 'holiday' and 'pro' packs which were all-inclusive?
We want to simplify the Truphone products for our customers. The new 'Membership pack' is aimed for PAYG customers, and we will shortly launch unique international 'Bundles' to replace the 'Pro' pack (customers will get allowance of Minutes, Text, and Data - valid across all Truphone countries - and it will also include an extra number, like the 'Holiday' and 'Pro' packs).
Do you offer Micro SIM cards for the iPhone 4 or iPad?
As you may know, the newly-launched iPhone 4 and the iPad both use a smaller than standard-size SIM, known as a micro SIM. We are currently working on releasing a Truphone Local Anywhere micro SIM. We are also looking to introduce bundles, including data bundles, shortly but in the meantime please be aware that at present our data rates are competitive at best, so it is not recommended if you are planning to use data heavily.
Pricing
How much does it cost other people to call me on my Truphone Local Anywhere numbers?
Truphone numbers are just like any other network operator numbers so anyone calling will be charged exactly the same as they would usually be charged to call a UK or US number.
Does credit expire?
Your credit will not expire, but after 90 days of inactivity you will be charged £2 (or €2, $3) account management per month until you re-activate your account, which you can do by making a quick call or sending a text message.
Features
How do I access local rates, and when do they commence?
Everyone gets access to local rates in one Truphone country for free, forever! The country you receive local rates for is based on your current country of residence. You can access local rates in all other Truphone countries for just £10 (or €10, $15) a month. Go to My Account to add local rates now.
The first month of extra local rates you add will commence as soon as they are added.
Can I choose a local number for a specific US state?
Yes - if you buy your Truphone Local Anywhere SIM card from our website you will be prompted to select your State. You will then be offered a choice of numbers from that particular State.
Please note that unfortunately numbers for the States of Alaska, Louisiana, North Dakota and Nevada are not available.
If you buy your SIM from a retailer you will be given a US number when you activate, however should you wish to change this to one for a specific US state please get in touch with our customer support team
Is call forwarding available?
Not at the moment, however it is something that we are hoping to bring in very shortly.
Can I send text messages to short code numbers?
Currently, you can only send text messages to regular mobile numbers, and not short code numbers, however we are working to open this up shortly.
What will happen when my 'extra number' expire?
Within My Account you are able to see additional numbers you have on your SIM, as well as their expiry date. You can also renew your number, or your local rates, within this section too.

Does visual voicemail work on the iPhone?
At the moment, no, but we are actively working on a fully supported Visual Voicemail Service. For those of you used to this with other networks, this will mean that the Voicemail service will be as good as it ever was. For those of you who use networks that did not support Visual Voicemail, this will be even better news as you will now have voicemail the way Apple intended it.
But, until we have launched this service, you can reconfigure the Voicemail button in the phone application to call your 'normal' Truphone voicemail '505' service by going to the Phone Keypad screen and entering the following code strings:
If you have a UK primary number, enter *5005*86*+447408888505# and press 'Call'.
For those of you with a USA primary number, enter *5005*86*+12135996505# and press 'Call'.
This will make the Voicemail button call the Truphone voicemail server so you can pick up your voicemail without having to dial the number.
If you want to cancel this configuration, enter *5005*86*# and press 'Call'. This will revert the function of the button back to the way it was.
Moving (porting) your number to Truphone
Can I move/port my current mobile number across to Truphone Local Anywhere?
Yes. UK and USA customers can now bring their number across to Truphone.
If you are a UK customer on the Vodafone, Orange, O2 or T-Mobile network you can bring (port) your number across to Truphone (please note, this number needs to be an original number from the network, and not a number ported to one of these networks from 3).
To do this, there are two simple steps:
1. Contact your network and request a PAC code.
For Vodafone contact 0870 070 0191
For Orange contact 0797 310 0450
For O2 contact 0844 809 0202
For T-Mobile contact 0845 412 5000
2. Contact our customer support team on 707 (if the SIM is in the phone) or 0203 318 0742 asking to have your number moved to us. We will ask for the PAC code, plus your Truphone Local Anywhere account name, and the number you wish to bring across.
After we receive this detail, it will take approximately 3 working days to complete, after which we will contact you to confirm that this has been done successfully.
For UK customers on the 3 network, number porting will be available very soon.
For US customers, please contact our customer support team to find out more.
The Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card is a small removable chip that stores the information your phone needs to connect to your network operator. This means, that by changing SIM cards you can change your network operator.
A country where we have local network partnerships established, meaning that you can add local rates and a local number from that country to your Truphone Local Anywhere SIM. Currently, the Truphone countries are the UK and the US.
A number that is local to a particular country. For example, a local UK number is a number that starts with +44. With Truphone Local Anywhere you can add local numbers from every Truphone country onto the one SIM card for a monthly fee.
For a monthly fee, you pay local rates in all Truphone countries for calls, text and data when you are in that country, instead of paying roaming rates. All on the one SIM, so no need to carry multiple SIMs when travelling.
Roaming refers to when you use your phone outside of the home country of the network.
A method of making calls using Truphone Local Anywhere, available in some countries, which works using a call method called call-back. You will be notified by text message when you arrive in a country where economy roaming is available.
To access these lower call rates all you need to do is dial the number (always using the full country code but removing the first 0) adding *100* to the start of the number and # at the end. For example to dial the UK number, 0203 318 0742, you would need to dial *100*44203 318 0742#
After dialling the number your call will disconnect, a few seconds later your mobile will ring (i.e. 'call you back') and when you answer the call you will be connected to the person you wish to speak to.
An unlocked phone is one that can use different network SIMs. If you are not sure whether your phone is unlocked, borrow a SIM from a friend who is on a different mobile network, insert it into your phone, and see if it works. If it works, that means your phone is unlocked and will be fine to use a Truphone Local Anywhere SIM.
